Chorley in Bloom “Coronovirus Update”- Projects and Community Gardens.

Hi Everyone,

We hope that you are all well and keeping safe in these extraordinary times.

Throughout the pandemic, our gardens have looked lovely, very colourful and we have had many comments on just how they have brightened up the most miserable of days. This is a testament of the work that the group have achieved and although work ceased due to the virus early in the year, the gardens have flourished and the town has seen colourful and vibrant displays.

While we are beginning to see a slow recovery, like every other organisation we are unsure what the future will look like and need to restructure and reorganise in line with current guidelines.  Our members and volunteers safety is our priority and it is important that volunteers do not drop their guard and remember that those over 70 years of age, regardless of general health are particularly vulnerable and should be limiting any contact with people outside of their household.  As many of our members fall into this category and after seeking advice, we shall be unable to work with schools, uniformed organisations and volunteers in any capacity at present,

We will, however, be putting into place safety measures and will be able to offer guidance, advice and problems experienced on your own garden plots via our e mail address (chorleyinbloomgroup@gmail.com) and there will be regular updates on our facebook and website pages.

The group wish to acknowledge that volunteers are very important to us and the committee look forward to working with you all again, once the restrictions have been lifted.  Until then, follow the guidelines and stay safe and well.

Regards

Chorley in Bloom.

Damage to the Railway Station Train

Unfortunately vandals again attacked the train at the railway station.

The volunteers work very hard on this area and visitors to the town travelling by train remark how wonderful this display is.

Hopefully CCTV will reveal the culprits but undeterred Chorley in Bloom volunteers have once again rectified the situation.

Thank you to everyone involved.

The Flat Iron Project – Community of Crafters

Hi Everyone

The flat iron project which will comprise  the knitted and crocheted squares and flowers is now nearing completion.  There are still other items that need to be completed but the main item the “Flat Iron” is looking stunning.

Here are some pictures of the work the volunteers have been doing in the Pop up Shop on Market Walk, Chorley.  Keep an eye on our facebook page for opening times.  All help gratefully received.

Calling Chorley Community Crafters

To all Chorley Community Crafters.

This Saturday the shop on Market Walks will be open on Saturday from 2.00. We need volunteers to dress the Flat Iron with the squares and flowers, drop in and let me know when you are available or send a message and I will sort out a timetable when the shop will be open. If you want to just come and have a natter you’d be very welcome.
Please keep the squares and flowers coming. 🌻
Thanks go to everyone who has helped so far.🌹

KNITTING PROJECT

Kay with her beautiful creation and Angela from Chorley FM with a collection of lovely hand knitted flowers from her Age Concern’s Line Dancing Group at Penwortham. Fantastic. Thank you to Becky at the Buttonhole for supporting this Community Project. 🌻

Ackhurst Lodge

We had a mass planting yesterday with volunteers from Astley Park Special School pupils and staff, Sisters from the Preston Temple, Sam and his Mum, Linda, Gill and myself. It looks lovely again. Well done and thank you everyone.

Galloways for the Blind

Galloway’s members supported by the Chorley & District Gardening Society enjoyed planting up summer bedding in the barge and large planters on St Thomas’s Square on Thursday. Thank you everyone for your enthusiasm and time. 🌻🌻

Chorley Gardening Society

Chorley Gardening Society planted up their planter opposite the Town Hall today with Rosemary, Lysimachia together with red and yellow million bells. Glynn showed us a beautiful bug with horrible habits he found. It’s a lilac bug that eats Rosemary among other things. The Rosemary plants we took out were covered in them and their larvae. We also found Vine Weevils. Thank you to everyone who helped. A job well done.
